Stay Golden with Golden Kiwis

It is incredibly important to us, here at Cha Cha Mamma, to encourage women to lean into every aspect of their lives. Whether that is what they are eating, the perfume they are wearing, or the makeup they are putting on their face. More importantly, however, we want to give all women the research-based knowledge they need in order to independently make the right decisions for themselves and their families. We strive to bring awareness to the specifics of everyday life, and empower women to conquer them, by expanding the knowledge they already have, and providing them with information they may not already know. 

For example, who in the world knew that golden kiwi fruit were incredibly effective for reducing the likelihood of cold and flu in both children and adults. The Journal of Food and Drug Analysis published a fascinating study which found that children (age 2-5) who ate 2 servings of golden kiwi fruit a day significantly reduced their risk of cold or flu by almost 50%.

It was also shown to significantly reduce the likelihood of flu and cold in another “high risk” population, which are adults over 65 years old. They chose golden kiwi fruit over the green kiwis because they are higher in vitamin C. They are also full of gorgeous nutrients such as potassium, and vitamins E and K.

We should mention that this study tested the consumption of gold kiwi fruit as compared to the consumption of bananas, which do not have as much vitamin C. It is possible that consuming other fruits high in vitamin c, such as citrus fruits, strawberries, and mango will also help combat sickness. However, two servings of kiwi fruit a day is a great way to start! Try to get your vitamin C from whole foods, rather than from the packets…it’s way more effective and delicious.

Cut some kiwi for your kids, your parents and yourself for your daily dose of cold prevention!
